What is Dark Was The Night about?

Dark Was The Night is a concept album: one character, one life, start to finish. It opens with a boy watching his father die, follows him through a hard Philadelphia upbringing and a love that looks like the way out, and ends with the betrayal that undoes him. The sound moves with the story, from hardcore, super-lyrical Philly rap to lush R&B-leaning records.

The last two tracks close the loop. Dark Was The Night Cold Was The Ground is its own song, separate from the album title, and the record ends on “Delirium (Thoughts As I Die)”. Guests include Styles P of The LOX on “Hell On Earth”, Philadelphia’s own Freeway on “Marvel”, and Dev Hoc on “Sweet”.
